FOR EUROPE & CENTRAL ASIA

SETTING UP INSTITUTIONAL AND LEGAL FRAMEWORKS TO PREPARE FOR THE HFC PHASE-DOWN UNDER THE KIGALI AMENDMENT

OHRID, MACEDONIA

10-12 May, 2017 (ECA Network meeting)

11-13 May, 2017 (IIR conference on cooling technologies)

The Regional Ozone Network for Europe & Central Asia (ECA network) of UN Environment Economy Division’s OzonAction Programme and the Ministry of Environment and Physical Planning of Macedonia, in cooperation with UNDP Macedonia, are jointly organizing the annual meeting of the ECA network in Ohrid, Macedonia, 10-12 May 2017. The meeting will overlap with the 7th Refrigeration Conference on Ammonia and Carbon Dioxide technologies taking place in Ohrid, 11-13 May 2017. This will allow the representatives of the national RAC associations to participate in selected sessions of the refrigeration conference and learn about latest developments in ammonia and carbon dioxide technologies. The conference is organized by the International Institute of Refrigeration (IIR) and the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering – Skopje.

The meeting takes place in the context of the Kigali Amendment, which has been agreed during the 28th Meeting of the Parties in Ruanda on 15 October 2016. It aims to phase-down high global warming hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) and transforms the Montreal Protocol into a powerful treaty for climate protection. It is expected to significantly contribute to the objectives of the Paris Agreement e.g. limiting global warming to 2 degrees by 2100.
